Description

1856-S Quarter Eagle, MS63
Rare in Mint State

1856-S $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. Mint State examples of the 1856-S quarter eagle are rare but are scattered fairly evenly through the MS60 to MS63 grade range, with few pieces finer. This Select example is a nice mid-level Uncirculated coin with better eye appeal than is expected for the grade. The strike is sharp everywhere but on the eagle's left (facing) leg, and only a few minor handling marks limit the grade. Satiny yellow-gold luster delivers pleasing eye appeal. Population: 4 in 63, 7 finer (9/16).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25JB, PCGS# 7781, Greysheet# 8381)

Weight: 4.18 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
