Description

1860 Two and a Half, MS61
Rare Old Reverse or Type One Hub

1860 $2 1/2 Old Reverse, Type One, MS61 PCGS. The upper two arrowheads touch, and the third arrowhead touches the arrow shaft above. These are characteristics of the elusive Type One or Old Reverse. The majority of 1860 quarter eagles are the Type Two reverse, noted for minutely smaller arrowheads and letters. Of course, any 1860 quarter eagle is scarce, since only 22,563 pieces were struck. Orange-gold luster dominates the borders, eagle, and hair. Population: 2 in 61, 10 finer (9/16).
Ex: Summer FUN Signature (Heritage, 7/2009), lot 1323.
