Description
1803/2 BD-3 Half Eagle, AU58
Early Die State
1803/2 $5 BD-3, R.4, AU58 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State
d/a. This is the earliest die state known for the 1803/2 BD-3 half
eagle. Star 9 on the obverse is fully developed, and there is no
evidence of the reverse die crack through the eagle to the E in
AMERICA. Unsurprisingly for an early die state, both sides have
prooflike fields that contrast nicely with the satin devices. The
surfaces exhibit rich orange-gold coloration with faint blue and
violet overtones. This highly attractive half eagle will appeal to
the advanced variety collector, or the gold type set collector. From The Twelve Oaks Collection.
