Description

1843 Liberty Head Eagle, AU58
Sole PCGS Coin So-Graded, With One Finer

1843 $10 AU58 PCGS. Breen-6861, Triple-Punched Date. A scarcity among early-date No Motto Liberty Head eagles despite a generous mintage, the 1843 issue is of the utmost rarity in Mint State. Near-Mint coins exist to a slightly greater degree, but those with natural color, nice luster, and few bagmarks are prized by specialists. This borderline Uncirculated example meets the criteria, with smooth, honey-gold surfaces and nearly full remaining mint luster. The strike is crisp throughout, and the date is triple-punched (visible with a loupe). Those who favor AU58 coins for their frequent superior eye appeal compared to lower Mint State coins will want to place an aggressive bid. PCGS reports only a single finer coin. Population: 1 in 58, 1 finer (7/16).
