Description
1920 Double Eagle, MS64+
One Coin Finer at PCGS
1920 $20 MS64+ PCGS. Double eagles were struck at the
Philadelphia and San Francisco mints in 1920. S-mint coins were
held in storage until the Gold Recall of 1933 and subsequently
melted, while P-mint twenties were stored until 1926, at which
point they were released for commercial use. Most examples survive
in MS62 and MS63, but Choice coins can be located with minimal
effort. Of the hundreds of MS64 submissions at PCGS, only 59 have
been awarded a Plus designation. A single coin is reported finer
(7/16). Effulgent luster blends with yellow-gold color throughout
both sides. The motifs are typically defined. A few small scrapes
appear on the obverse. From The Twelve Oaks Collection.(Registry values: N2998)
