Description

1808/7 Half Dollar, O-101, AU55
Traces of Mint Luster, 'Secure' Holder

1808/7 50C O-101, R.1, AU55 PCGS Secure. Struck to the extent of more than 1.3 million pieces, the second-year of the new John Reich design required 10 die pairs, many of which were used beyond the normal wear and tear of the minting process. O-101 is the sole overdate for the 1808, and always in demand as the first overdate in the Capped Bust series. This example displays satin-smooth fields and an attractive, lilac-gray patina. Golden luster gleams at the margins. The strike is sharp and the die cracks are not as advanced as later states of the dies, with minor die clashing visible on both sides. A Choice About Uncirculated coin, housed in a PCGS Secure holder. Population: 24 in 55, 51 finer (11/16).
