Description

1820 O-108 Capped Bust Half, MS62
Square Base 2, Large Date, Golden Patina

1820 50C Square Base 2, Large Date, No Knob, O-108, R.2, MS62 PCGS. Prominent doubling on the leaves and berries is diagnostic of the O-108 reverse, while recutting on the lower points of star 5 help confirm the obverse for the slightly scarce knobless Square Base 2 variety. The stars are sharply formed on this gold-toned example, with grayish-blue overtones. Otherwise, the strike is a bit flat on the cap and some of the high point curls, as well as on the eagle's brow, wing shoulders, and talons. A few tiny marks are scattered about, consistent with the MS62 grade. The fields are semireflective and lustrous. Population (Square 2, Large Date, No Knob varieties): 9 in 62, 13 finer (11/16).
