Description

1864 Seated Liberty Half Dollar, MS64
WB-101, Elusive Wartime Issue

1864 50C WB-101 MS64 PCGS. Influenced not only by wartime concerns, the Mint recognized that silver coinage simply did not circulate other than on the West Coast, and any half dollars issued served primarily as bank reserves. Just 379,100 pieces were struck. This example is one of a limited number of near-Gem survivors. Essentially full details exist in all areas, and each side is covered with even golden-olive and rose toning with problem-free surfaces. Population: 15 in 64 (1 in 64+), 11 finer (11/16).

Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 572158, Base PCGS# 6311)
