1843 $5 MS64 PCGS. Random die lines are evident at Liberty's mouth, and heavy clash marks appear between the vertical shield stripes, with several of the vertical lines extending into the crossbars. The 1843 half eagle had the third highest mintage of the No Motto series at 611,205 coins. Despite the commonality of the issue, better grade Mint State pieces are extremely rare. In fact, PCGS has never certified a finer example and NGC has only certified one finer piece. This Choice Mint State piece exhibits a sharp strike, brilliant yellow luster, and trivial marks.
