Description

Popular Branch Mint Type Issue
1849-C $5 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1. The 1849-C Liberty half
eagle is a relatively available issue from a mintage of 64,823
pieces. This Choice AU specimen shows some light wear on the high
points of the well-detailed design elements and an unfinished area
on the reverse, between the eagle's wing and the branch, diagnostic
of Variety 1. A die crack from the rim near U in UNITED indicates
the later Die State II. The lightly abraded lemon-yellow surfaces
exhibit traces of prooflike reflectivity in sheltered areas.
