Description

1871-S Twenty Dollar, MS62+
CAC-Approved and Radiantly Lustrous
Rarely Seen Finer

1871-S $20 MS62+ PCGS. CAC. The 1871-S double eagle is scarce in Mint State, and coins grading finer than MS62 are extremely rare. This CAC-endorsed example is the only Plus-graded Uncirculated coin at PCGS, making it arguably the most important 1871-S known below the MS63 grade level, above which the price of this date quickly accelerates beyond most collectors' pocket books. This piece displays intensely frosted, vibrant mint luster with a radiant cartwheel effect. Scattered abrasions determine the grade, although there is no doubt that the eye appeal makes this coin excel within the MS62 numeric level. This is a rare opportunity for the collector of high-end Type Two double eagles. Population: 31 in 62 (1 in 62+), 2 finer. CAC: 7 in 62, 1 finer (1/17).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AC, PCGS# 8962, Greysheet# 9914)
