Description

1940 FS-901 Nickel, PR67+
Reverse of 1938, Wavy Steps

1940 5C Reverse of 1938, FS-901, PR67+ PCGS. CAC. The introductory Wavy Steps subtype was largely replaced during 1939, but at least one holdover reverse die struck 1940 proofs. Such pieces are greatly outnumbered by their proof 1940 Straight Steps counterparts. The present well-struck and flashy Superb Gem is essentially brilliant, and is pristine aside from a solitary tiny tick on the central reverse. As of (3/17), PCGS has graded five pieces as PR67+ with two finer. CAC: 14 in 67, 1 finer (3/17).
