1812 BD-1 Half Eagle, MS64+
Widely Spaced Denomination
1812 $5 BD-1, R.3, MS64+ PCGS. CAC. Two varieties are known
for the 1812 half eagles, and the BD-1 with the widely spaced
denomination is seen about three times as often as the other
variety. Since 1993, we have offered 174 appearances of 1812 half
eagles, including 138 of BD-1 and 36 of BD-2. This variety is
elusive in high grades, and only four or five finer examples are
known to us. This piece has frosty green-gold luster and above
average design definition with outstanding eye appeal. Population
for both 1812 varieties: 46 in 64 (4 in 64+), 7 finer (3/17).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25PL, Variety PCGS# 507601, Base PCGS# 8112)
