Winter: 'Extremely Rare in Full Mint State'

1843-D $2 1/2 Small D AU58 PCGS. Variety 4-H. The mintmark is entered low, and centered over the denominator. According to gold expert Doug Winter, the 1843-D quarter eagle "is much rarer than generally realized in the highest About Uncirculated grades and it is extremely rare in full Mint State." This piece has light gold color and razor-sharp definition for a Dahlonega product. Still-lustrous with few marks and little high-point blending. Population: 26 in 58, 12 finer (3/17).(Registry values: P1)
