Description

1829 Large Letters Bust Half, MS64+
O-110, Recut 9 in Date
Top of the Census

1829 50C Large Letters, O-110, R.2, MS64+ PCGS. The Large Letters reverse gives the legend a crowded look, especially where UNITEDSTATES appears as one word. Overton-110 represents the sole die marriage with the Large Letters legend. This is a splendid near-Gem example of the variety, immersed in copper-gold, gunmetal-blue, and golden-gray toning with strong mint luster shining through the natural patina. A glass reveals a few tiny marks (although none are readily apparent in-hand). Sharply struck, this Plus-graded coin earns extra credit for its tremendous eye appeal. The Stephen Herrman Spring, 2017 report suggests the present coin will rank at the top of the O-110 Condition Census, since the sole MS65 coin is a late die state O-110a (5/17).
