Description

1950 Franklin Half Dollar
Major Rarity in PR65 Deep Cameo
'King of the Cameo Franklin Series'

1950 50C PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Blue Ocean. The effects of not having engaged in proof coin production for eight years is evident in the manufacturing quality of the 1950 Franklin half dollar proofs. Most examples were poorly made with low contrast, myriad hairlines, and often discolored from the method of packaging. Specialists in this series will recognize the importance of this PR65 Deep Cameo example, one of 51,386 specimens struck in 1950, which Rick Tomaska has called "the king of the cameo Franklin series" and "a great 20th-century rarity."

Black-and-white surfaces display profound field mirroring and thickly frosted, fully struck design elements. A single contact mark above the ear is noted. Population: 4 in 65 Deep Cameo, 1 finer. CAC: 2 in 65, 0 finer (6/17).
