Description

1897-S Half Dollar, AU58
Seldom Seen Finer

1897-S 50C AU58 PCGS. CAC. The 1897-S Barber half is a slightly better date, benefiting in that regard from a mintage of just less than 1 million coins. Mint State survivors are scarce and out of reach for budget-conscious collectors. This Borderline Uncirculated representative exhibits sharp detail with a trace of friction over the high points of the devices. The obverse shows pale champagne toning with midnight-blue around the borders. The reverse shows the same colors, but in a more distinctive pattern -- the blue forms a perfect crescent moon over the left two-thirds of the coin, and the champagne occupies the remainder. Population: 7 in 58 (1 in 58+), 70 finer. CAC: 3 in 58, 16 finer (8/17).(Registry values: N1793)
