1840 1C Large Date, N-8, R.1, MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Die State d. This is a late die state example with a series of obverse rim breaks below the date and star 13. An attractive and lustrous piece with considerable original mint color, especially on the reverse. The obverse has deeper orange color, subdued and faded to light brown. Light brown toning is evident on the reverse devices. Similar quality and die state to lot 31 in the 2002 Brown sale, that coin called fourth finest known. Our EAC grade MS63.
