Description

1842 Seated Dollar, MS63
Ex: Jack Lee, Seldom Seen This Fine

1842 $1 MS63 PCGS. OC-2, R.1. The date is far right and slightly repunched. Three die lines occur in the upper-left reverse shield. When collectors and numismatists discuss rarities in the Seated Liberty Dollar series, the 1842 issue is seldom mentioned. It should be, however, for examples are seldom seen in Mint State grades, especially approaching Choice quality. This lovely representative is moderately toned in golden-gray shades that lessen the appearance of scattered abrasions. Actually, there are few distracting blemishes to begin with, and the strike, if incomplete, is uncommonly sharp for the type. Population: 24 in 63, 20 finer (9/17).
