Description

1800 Draped Bust Dollar, XF40
B-12, BB-184, Ex: Hesselgesser

1800 $1 B-12, BB-184, R.3, XF40 PCGS Secure. Ex: Hesselgesser. Bowers Die State I. The obverse die was employed first on BB-182 and BB-183, but this BB-184 variety is the sole use of the reverse die. A die dot within D of UNITED, while a chunky die flaw at the outside of the upright of E in AMERICA confirms the attribution. Medium golden-umber color covers both sides, interrupted by lilac and blue areas that provide both interest and appeal. Aside from the expected light wear, the motifs are sharp and remaining mint luster suggest an even higher grade. Only faint abrasions exist, disguised by the toning and softened by circulation.
