1961 Half Dollar, PR69 Deep Cameo
A Top-Grade Registry Set Rarity

1961 50C PR69 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 1961 Franklin half dollar proof, in PR69 Deep Cameo, is a great rarity and an item of unsurpassed desirability among Registry Set collectors. PCGS lists only two coins this fine, which are joined by seven NGC coins in the same grade. At both services, these pieces are the finest known (12/17). The present coin offers frost-white luster on the pristine devices, which seem to float atop of the liquidlike mirroring of the fields, which are devoid of toning. We have not offered an example in this grade since our September 2012 Long Beach Signature sale, lot 4077, where an NGC coin garnered nearly $10,000. We handled the other PCGS coin back in our 2009 FUN Signature sale, lot 6075, where it realized $27,600. This piece is every bit that coin's equal.(Registry values: N2998)
