Description

1891 Liberty Nickel, MS67
Among the Three Finest Certified

1891 5C MS67 PCGS Secure. Consider the original mintage of 1891 Liberty nickels -- more than 16.8 million coins. That number would seem to suggest a certain degree of availability for the 1891. While examples can still be found with minimal searching through Gem condition, the issue carries a relatively low average certified grade of MS61. Further, this is one of just two Superb Gems at PCGS. One other MS67 example is reported at NGC. No coins are graded higher (11/17).

Full radials on the stars and partial detail on the left ear of corn are indicative of a strong impression. Light golden toning and swirling mint luster grace each side of this Registry-worthy Liberty nickel. An identifying strike-through diagonally pierces the L in LIBERTY, and a couple of faint marks occur above the denomination.
