Variety 1, The Only Dies
1857-O $10 AU50 PCGS. Variety 1. New Orleans eagle coinage
was extremely limited throughout the second half of the decade
following the opening of the San Francisco Mint. Only 5,500 of
these coins were produced in 1857, for example. This pleasing AU50
representative is housed in a green-label PCGS holder and exhibits
excellent eye appeal despite myriad surface marks. Both sides have
light yellow-gold luster with delicate orange overtones.
