Description

1812/1 O-102a Half, AU55
Small 8, Sharp and Lustrous

1812/1 50C Small 8, O-102a, R.2, AU55 PCGS. CAC. The 8 is small but the 2 in the date is definitely more interesting. It looks huge and ungainly in comparison to the other digits, awkwardly hiding an underdigit 1 that remains visible at the left edge of the numeral. This is the late die state O-102a, with blurry die cracks coursing through the obverse, joined by die clashing. The outer elements (stars and legends) are drawn to the edges, where nearly all of the dentils are missing on both sides. Still, the surfaces are Choice and frosted with much mint luster remaining. Golden-gray toning displays rose highlights. Population: 23 in 55, 47 finer (1/18).
