Impressively Pedigreed Cretan Rarity
CRETE. Hierapytna. Ca. 200-67 BC. AR didrachm (22mm, 7.28 gm, 1h). Samagoras, magistrate. Head of Tyche right, wearing turreted headdress, triple-pendant earring, and necklace / Palm tree; to left, eagle standing right; ΣAMA/ΓOPAΣ and monogram to right, IEPAΠYTN/ΩN below. Svoronos, Numismatique 28 var. (eagle and legend reversed). BMC 7 var. (same). Jameson 2127 (this coin). Very rare. Die break on obverse. NGC Choice XF? 5/5 - 5/5.
