Description:
C. Memmius C. f. (56 BC). AR denarius (3.86 gm).  Rome. Head of Ceres right, wreathed with grain ears / Bound captive kneeling right beneath trophy of eastern arms. Crawford 427/1. Sydenham 920. RSC Memmia 10. Light toning around the devices. A lovely specimen, sharply struck in good metal. Scratch behind head on obverse, reverse slightly off-center, otherwise Choice Extremely Fine.

The obverse of this coin refers to an ancestor, the first aedile to celebrate the Cerialia festival in Rome ca. 211 BC, of the moneyer. The trophy and captive reverse advertises Roman victories in Bithynia and Pontus under his uncle, C. Memmius L. f., who served as proconsul of Asia in 58 BC.
