Q. Caecilius Metellus Pius Scipio (47-46 BC). AR denarius (18mm, 3.62 gm, 12h). Military mint traveling with Scipio in Africa. Q. METEL PIVS, laureate head of Jupiter right / SCIPIO above, IMP in exergue, elephant standing right. Crawford 459/1. Sear 45. Sydenham 1046. Caecilia 47. Small lamination flaw on obverse above head. Lightly toned. Extremely Fine.

Scipio led the Pompeian forces in North Africa against Caesar, where he was utterly defeated at the Battle of Thapsus. Rather than awaiting capture, he committed suicide.
