1905-O 10C Micro O MS65 PCGS....
Second Finest Known 1905-O "Micro O" Dime1905-O 10C Micro O MS65 PCGS. Breen 3545, "Microscopic O." Howard Rounds Newcomb was one of the pioneer students of minute die varieties among late 19th and early 20th century coinages. He is credited with discovering the first "overmintmark," the 1900-O/CC Dollar. David Lawrence speculates this variety results from an employee using the mintmark punch designated for use on Quarters.
This is one of the finest extant examples. Both sides are essentially brilliant with just a hint of soft golden patina circling the border areas. Well defined for an O-mint issue, a couple of minor contact marks are seen on each side. Breen lists this smaller-than-normal mintmark variety as "Rare." PCGS population: 1 in 65, 1 finer (11/04), none are comparable at NGC.(#94836) (Registry values: P5) (PCGS# 94836)
