1868 Ten-Cents, Judd-647, PR 651868 Ten-Cents, Judd-647, Pollock-720, R.6, PR 65 PCGS. The obverse features the almost identical design used on large cents from 1843 to 1857, the reverse is similar except TEN CENTS is in the center of the wreath. It is probable that these patterns were prepared simply to exhibit the size and weight of the suggested coin rather than to illustrate a proposed design. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Better struck than one might imagine for a nickel product from this period, the fields, however, are shallowly mirrored as are many regular issue proofs from this decade. Bright overall and untoned with a faint speckling of carbon on each side. (PCGS# 60647)
