Description

1937-S Buffalo Nickel, MS68
Icy-Blue and Rose Colored Toning

1937-S 5C MS68 NGC. The 1937-S was the final issue of the Buffalo nickel struck in San Francisco. As with most S-mint issues, the production was small relative to its Philadelphia and Denver counterparts with only 5.6 million pieces struck. Rolls were set aside of the 1937-S and numerous high-grade pieces exist today. But at this lofty level, this coin is second finest only to one MS68 coin (6/12). As expected, the surfaces display outstanding, bright frosted mint luster. This bright sheen enhances the overlay of ice-blue and rose colored toning. Of course, there are no noticeable abrasions.
Ex: Baltimore Auction (Bowers and Merena, 3/2009), lot 621, where it realized $26,450.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 22SY, PCGS# 3983)
