Description

Possible Finest Known JR-8 1820 Large 0 Dime

1820 10C Large 0 MS64 NGC. JR-8, R.3. The Large 0 in the date and the old style reverse lettering, with the left bases of the T's defective, identify this scarce early dime. The reflective surfaces have delightful lilac toning, deepening to iridescent blue at the rims. This coin shows a bold strike, save for the eagle's right (facing) claw and the highest hair below the headband. This coin may be the finest known of this variety, as it is the highest graded JR-8 appearing in the NGC Census Report, and it is the finest by one grade point of this variety that we have ever been privileged to offer, at least since we began keeping our auction archives more than a dozen years ago.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 236X, PCGS# 4492)
