Description:
1829 JR-10 Dime, VF Details
Curl Base 2
1829 10C Curl Base 2 -- Environmental Damage -- PCGS Genuine. VF Details. JR-10, R.6. The Curl Base 2 date on this obverse die is paired with a Small 10C reverse to create the only variety of the date style, a major Guide Book variety with only about two dozen pieces in existence. When examples appear for sale in major auctions, and that happens only about once a year, the grade is typically low, usually only Good or VG. We have records of just half a dozen pieces better than VG that have appeared for sale at auction over the past two decades.

The finest auctioned example is a VF30 PCGS coin that appeared in a January 2009 Bowers and Merena sale. One finer VF35 PCGS example has never appeared for public sale. That service has examined this piece and the other two pieces mentioned here, with a Fine 12 as the next best. The finest NGC has certified is just Fine 12 (3/13).

Both sides of this moderately worn sale have olive-gray surfaces with streaks of darker toning and considerable, evenly distributed granularity. The underlying surfaces are lightly marred but the overall appearance is still quite acceptable. The specialist is presented with an extraordinary opportunity.(Registry values: N1) (PCGS# 4512)
