Description

Conditionally Rare 1812/1 Bust Half, MS65 NGC

1812/1 50C Small 8 MS65 NGC. O-102a, R.2. Easily identified as the later die state by the die crack that runs through the base of the second 1 to the stand of the overpunched 1. Surprisingly frosty surfaces, the central striking details are well brought up with some localized peripheral softness, most notably on the stars on the lower part of the reverse. Each side is moderately toned with reddish-gray hues that deepen to russet and deep sea-green at the borders. Noticeably die clashed on the obverse, the opposite side is virtually free of mentionable clashing. This conditionally rare example is finer than both the Eliasberg (MS 60) and Overton examples (MS 63), and is bettered by only one other at NGC (4/04). (#6101) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24EY, PCGS# 6101)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
