Description:
Scarce 1815/2 Capped Bust Half Dollar
1815/2 50C XF40 PCGS. O-101, R.2. Steel gray with a hint of light gold near the stars. Traces of luster in the protected areas can be found when the coin is examined under a light. Minor clashmarks are found on the reverse as usual. Moderate surface hairlines and the coin is slightly reflective. There are some thin dull scratches on the reverse, surrounding the eagle, with a couple on the shield, and there is a pin prick nick on Liberty's neck. One of the most desirable dates in the Capped Bust half series, which has the tiny mintage of 47,150 pieces. The entire mintage of 1815 half dollars was delivered on January 10, 1816, just hours before the Philadelphia Mint suffered a fire which virtually halted gold and silver coinage until late 1817.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24F5, PCGS# 6108)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
