Description:
Bright Choice BU 1824/4 Bust Half Dollar
1824/4 50C MS64 NGC. O-110, R.2. The variety is confirmed by the recut 4 in the date, the AME of AMERICA joined at the base, and a die chip in the upper reverse field, between the eagle's head and UN of UNUM. A lovely near-Gem with nearly undisturbed surfaces and unencumbered satiny luster. Original bright luster fills the centers, while the margins offer hints of antique-golden patina. The major devices are well struck aside from the eagle's right (facing) claws, although the stars are not fully defined. Beautifully preserved, only a small and inconspicuous mark on the cheekbone denies an even finer grade. Census: 4 in 64, 7 finer (4/06).(Registry values: N2998) (PCGS# 6140)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
