Description:
1828 Curl Base 2, Knob O-107, AU50 NGC
1828 50C Curl Base 2, Knob AU50 NGC. O-107, R.2. This variety and the rarer O-106 share similar obverses, but with crucial differences: each has the curl base 2 with knob top, but this coin has star 13 extremely close to the hair curl, the serif of 1 is only a quarter-millimeter from the drapery, and a die line pierces the headband beneath I of LIBERTY. The present example has dark gray surfaces that are boldly struck from dies that are only lightly eroded. The star centrils are full on the right (facing) side but flat on the left side. Perusal with a loupe shows only light wear with bold details, even on the eagle and E PLURIBUS UNUM that are normally weak. Envelope Included. (PCGS# 6149)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
