Description

Beautifully Toned Gem 1833 Half Dollar

1833 50C MS65 PCGS. O-102, R.1. A richly toned Gem, with full luster and mottled, multicolored patina blanketing each side. Burnt-orange, sea-green, and charcoal-brown colors swirl over each side, and flashes of yellow-gold are also prominent. Sharply struck on the stars, hair tresses, and plumage, with only trivial softness of detail within the horizontal shield lines. A die defect line, not mentioned by Overton, is visible to the naked eye from the base of the 0 in 50, angling left to the border. A small obverse reeding mark has left four contiguous dots directly above the second 3 in the date. An impressive and carefully preserved Bust Half. Encapsulated in an older green label PCGS holder. Population: 9 in 65, 3 finer (10/03).(#6163) (NGC ID# 24FX, PCGS# 6163)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
