Rare 1823/2 Quarter, Good 4 PCGS1823/2 25C Good 4 PCGS. B-1, R.6. Only a single die pairing is known of this rare issue. Often compared to the 1802 half dime, the 1823/2 quarter is not quite as rare. Nevertheless, it is a scarce and highly sought-out key issue in the Capped Bust quarter series. It is also a highly valued coin in all grades. The mintage for the 1823/2 quarter was 117,800 pieces. No one knows what happened to the vast majority of the production run, but wholesale melting seems to be the most likely explanation. This lower grade example has bright centers with dark peripheral toning. The devices are all fully outlined with slight detailing on the central figures, and no wear into the rims. An uncleaned and attractive 1823 quarter.
