Description

1828 B-1 Quarter, Splendid, Unmarked MS65+

1828 25C MS65+ PCGS. CAC. B-1, R.1. The reverse shows a curl base 2 in the denomination, which is high in the field, and repunching is prominent on several obverse stars, including numbers 2, 7, 9-11, and 13, providing the attribution. Star 1 is closer to the bust than the dentils. Three of the four known die pairings for 1828 all share this obverse, with the B-4 having a different obverse that has star 1 closer to the dentils. This piece is a splendid MS65+ coin with ivory-cream centers deepening to amber-copper hues near the rims. Marks are few, scattered, and minor, putting this piece into the high-eye appeal category.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 23RV, PCGS# 5342)
