Description

Gem 1834 Small Head Classic Quarter Eagle

1834 Classic MS 65 PCGS. Small Head. Large Arrowheads. Breen-6138. There are two distinctly different portraits on the 1834 Classic quarter eagle. The Large Head is considered the scarcer of the two, but the impeccable preservation of this so-called "common" design type puts it in a class by itself. The coin is amazingly well struck for a Classic quarter eagle with complete plumage on the eagle and good definition on Liberty's hair curls. The fields are bright and semi-prooflike, as usually seen, and there are only the slightest abrasions on either side, none of which are worthy of individual mention. Rich orange-gold color is seen throughout with just a touch of light reddish-coppery patina as well. Population: 6 in 65, 1 finer (12/98). (NGC ID# 25FS, PCGS# 7692)
