Mint State 1834 Two and a Half
Mildly Prooflike

1834 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Breen-6140, Variety 2, R.3. The Large Head subtype, which is moderately scarcer than the often-encountered Variety 1 Small Head. The Wide AM in AMERICA reverse, later reused to strike 1835 and 1836 half eagles. The present boldly impressed example is free from visible abrasions save for a small tick on the reverse rim at 3 o'clock. The sun-gold surfaces are mildly prooflike.
