Description

1836 Block 8 Quarter Eagle, MS63
Rarely Seen in Uncirculated Grades

1836 $2 1/2 Block 8 MS63 NGC. Breen-6144, Variety 15, R.2. Head of 1837. This final portrait style of 1836 shows a slightly "thinner" version of the Head of 1835 with the hair curl near star 6 all but gone. While Classic quarter eagles and fives are common in VF-XF grades because of the greatly enhanced mintages for this type, surprisingly few Mint State coins were set aside. This bright, lustrous example shows the usual softness of strike on the hair of Liberty and the reverse shield. The yellow-gold color shows just the slightest hint of reddish patina. Census: 57 in 63, 21 finer (4/13).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 5/2008), lot 2967.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 25FU, PCGS# 97694)
