Description

Scarce Uncirculated 1837 Classic Head Quarter Eagle

1837 MS 60 NGC. Well defined for the issue, with typical lack of definition on a few of the obverse stars, the highest curls, and the shield lines. Although priced similarly, the 1837 is quite a bit scarcer than earlier Classic quarter eagles. Since it is often valued in current price guides at virtually the same price as the more populous dates, it may well be considered the sleeper in the series. This specimen has the expected number of minute marks in the fields, none of which are overly distracting, and the color is a pleasant yellow-gold, with much original luster. (NGC ID# 25FX, PCGS# 7695)
