Description:

1847 Hawaii Cent, MS65 Brown
Among the Finest Certified
1847 1C Hawaii Cent MS65 Brown NGC. Medcalf 2CC-2. Crosslet 4, 15 berries. The obverse displays olive-green, chestnut-gold, and powder-blue toning. The reverse is sea-green and lilac. The satiny surfaces are exceptionally devoid of contact or carbon. The strike is generally sharp. An unusually high grade example of the first official Hawaiian medallic currency, manufactured in Attleboro, Massachusetts for King Kamehameha III. HAPA HANERI translates loosely as ONE CENT. The sole Brown Gem at NGC, and none are known in higher grades, though that service has graded a single cent as MS65 Red and Brown, as has PCGS. (PCGS# 10965)
