Select Mint State 1883 Hawaii Dollar1883 $1 Hawaii Dollar MS63 PCGS. The akahi dala or silver dollar is the rarest of the 1883 Hawaiian denominations issued for circulation, and like its umi keneta (dime), hapaha (quarter), and hapalua (half dollar) counterparts, it is a single-year type. Per Breen, the dollar has a net mintage of 46,348 pieces, since most of the 500,000 coins struck were melted by the Treasury after Hawaii became a U.S. territory in 1900. The present well struck and minimally abraded example displays satin luster throughout its deep blanket of gunmetal-gray and caramel-gold patina. Population: 15 in 63, 34 finer (2/11). (PCGS# 10995)
