Description

1891 Queen Liliuokalani Silver Dollar Pattern
PR63 Deep Cameo

1891 $1 Queen Liliuokalani Pattern Silver Dollar PR63 Deep Cameo PCGS. Medcalf 2MH-1. Reginald Huth was a late Victorian-era British collector. He must have sympathized with the deposed Royalty from the former Kingdom of Hawaii, since he issued several silver medals or dollar patterns that depicted either Queen Liliuokalani or Princess Kailulani. These were struck by London medallists Pinches & Co. and the well-made varieties are all coveted by Hawaiian collectors to this day. The present fully struck piece has frosty motifs and glassy fields. The borders display attractive peach-gold and cherry-red shades though the centers remain brilliant. Close examination reveals the small letters H and L are lightly pinscratched on the reverse border beneath the stars, but field hairlines are minimal for the designated grade. Only three of these proof medals are certified by PCGS in all grade levels, including Deep Cameo, Cameo, and non-Cameo (12/12).
