1919 Kamehameha Medal by Wall & Dougherty. The medal marked the 100th anniversary of the death of Kamehameha I. The portion with the pin affixed to the back reads 1819 JUNE, 11 1919 KAMEHAMEHA I while the larger portion attached by chains depicts the king participating in the ancient sport of catching spears at which he is said to have excelled. MAMALAHOE appears below. W&D is stamped on the back. According to a photocopy of two newspaper articles dated 1954, a former employee of Wall & Dougherty, C.P. West, stated that he designed the medals in 1919 and that only 8 pieces were produced. He did not have information concerning who ordered the medals.
