Description:

London Elephant Token, Thick Planchet
Finest Certified, MS66 Red and Brown
Ex: Eliasberg, W-12040
(1694) TOKEN London Elephant Token, Thick Planchet MS66 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Hodder 2-B, W-12040, R.2. Ex: Eliasberg. The London Elephant token was struck from the same obverse die as the very rare New England and Carolina PROPRIETORS varieties. It has been collected as part of the Early American series since the 19th century. The typical Elephant token grades VF. Although Uncirculated examples are known, they are usually fully brown. The present piece, pedigreed to the illustrious Eliasberg collection, is the single finest certified and retains glimpses of the initial rose-red color. Exposed portions of the token are chocolate-brown. The strike is precise, the surfaces are unabraded, and the sole imperfections are a few tiny flecks on the obverse field. Listed on page 46 of the 2014 Guide Book.
Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 5/1996), lot 42. (PCGS# 56)
