Description:
AU Large Planchet Noe-1
1652 Pine Tree Shilling
1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet AU50 PCGS. CAC. Noe-1, W-690, Salmon 1-A, R.2. 71.30 grains. Pellets at trunk. Pleasing gunmetal-gray patina covers the remarkably smooth and unabraded surfaces. This impressive piece has the typical wavy texture seen because of the rocker press used at the Massachusetts Mint. The strike is exceptionally sharp, with only trivial weakness at the bottom of each side, and the centering is nearly ideal. An attractive and above-average representative of this important colonial issue. Listed on page 39 of the 2013 Guide Book.
Ex: Central States (Heritage, 4/2002), lot 7651, uncertified; Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2008), lot 6, certified. (PCGS# 23)
