Description

1662 Oak Tree Twopence, VF35
Noe-31, Heavy Die Cracks

1662 2PENCE Oak Tree Twopence VF35 PCGS. Small Date, Crosby 1-A3, Noe-31, R.6. All Oak Tree twopence were struck from the same pair of dies. Noe-29 through Noe-31.5 are progressions of the original Small Date dies, which were reengraved after die failure to create the Noe-32 through Noe-34 varieties. Noe-30 is the middle die state Small Date and the variety usually encountered. The rare Noe-31 is distinguished by heavy die cracks (as made) to the right from the bottom and top of the 2 in the date. This charcoal-gray example has pleasing detail on the oak tree, and the reverse legends are bold and intact. The reverse is properly centered, while the reverse is off-center toward 7 o'clock. IN MA is mostly off the flan. Somewhat wavy, as made from rocker dies. A couple of handling marks in the centers are of little significance. Listed on page 38 of the 2013 Guide Book. (PCGS# 17)
